There is no doubt that there are bad and good unions. You have bad doctors and good doctors, you have good workers and you have bad workers, you have good priests and very bad priests.
the fact remains that the corporate world has had enough time and spin everything around and blame the unions for all of its ills.
I have heard some pretty bad stories from people who happen to be in some of those bad unions and believe me if I did not know any better I would say that they where designed by big business to make the unions look bad and try to destroy any chance of the working class getting a fair shake.
I also know that their are those who deserve a good union and those who get by the system with doing nothing. That is happening right now at FedEx and do they do anything about it? Hell no!
Fred did a very smart thing, He gave us everything the unions somewhat have, a handbook that has no power and Management has the deciding vote. They gave us a grievance procedure that appears to be there for your protection but is just a waste of time. They bring our pay close to the union scale or we would all go work for UPS and they get you to believe that your better off without a union then with one.
I bought that shit for years when I was told you may not make as much as ups but your benefits are much better and you will never have to worry about your retirement because uncle Fred will take care of you. It's all crap, even those with a contract find themselves fighting the company's that do not stick to the contract and sneak around it as much as they can or until they get caught.
You have to ask yourself why would a company try to hard not to let you organize? The rich and powerful have all through history made sure that their piece of the pie was safe and no one was going to take it. The laws are made for the rich and corporate America to protect their interest and not the workers.
I have loved FedEx for 14 years I even was so purple that my Harley is FedEx purple but in the last 2 years and actually longer when seen we have become prisoners at work locked in a chain link jail that god forbid you leave to get something in your car you forgot and not clock out. You are fired for that without a doubt.
Some of you new guys do not remember the days when we where trusted and we did our own meteor. we use to be able to go to lunch with out clocking out and they made you feel trusted and you honored that trust. But their is always those few who screw it up for others so what does FedEx do, Just like everyone else they chop down the forest instead of getting rid of the few bad trees. You new guys like making over $2000.00 less a year then the guy next to you who works nights because he was their a little longer than you.
15 cents line pay since FedEx started back in 1972 has never been changed. They keep raising our licence pay and not our base so when it comes time to figuring out what you could have gotten when you retire or for what they use it for,believe me it is not in your best interest.
Oh the sugar is coming out now and we can see it. Management is having cakes and acting like they care because they know we are coming and the only thing they have is to act like they care and love you or use the good ole last resort ***Fear*** Do not buy into it guys, yes be happy you have a job but believe me if they did not need you do you think you actually would? Oh yea they love you and don't care if you sit around all day we will pay you because we are nice guys.
Look at the outsourcing that is going on people, this is what this is all about how long before they have everything in place and then start clearing the lines, and you know who will be the first to go because even in our fake union society at FedEx they use seniority when they want, and why not they make up the rules.
Sorry for running on so much but read this article on who really takes the money that could be use to build up the company and reinvest in doing work in house. Oh yea and the big deal they make about you having to dish our all your hard earned money to the Teamsters is part of the fear I talked about. For me it would be around $75 a month and think about what that got the ups people. Just on not having to pay medical like we ( I just got my bill and it went up from $260 a month to $311.00) that 75 dollars saves them over us $311.00 -$75 dues means I'm still up $236.00 a month and that's just the monthly fee never mind prescriptions, deductibles, (go have surgery $3000.00 out of pocket right off the top plus $250.00 co pay to the hospital.
I would have to say not even being a genius that I would pay double my dues just to have what a contract brings to the working man. Oh yea one last thing because I have a million of them. When you do retire and believe me you will get old and at today's rates our retiree's pay over $800.00 a month just for medical and UPS pays only $50.00, well boys and girls that's a $750.00 savings per month. You could go buy your wife or husband a Mercedes 450sl for cheaper. I can not promise you that we can get what ups has since they have been Teamsters for a very long time but wouldn't it be nice knowing that everyday you go to work their is somebody fighting for you at the tables because believe me, FedEx has plenty of money and it will be proven once we get the union in and then the books will have to be opened for the Teamsters accountants and then we will see the real truth(if we get the real books lol) that is my 75 dollars worth and if I had more time and space I could blow your mind on other benefits they have that we do not(oh yea they make around $5.00 more an hour than us and they are now renegotiating their new contract. thanks for listening.

Advisory Board Meeting

The first formal Airline Division Advisory Board meeting held last week in California was a great success. The Board will provide advice and recommendations relating to Division-wide projects and issues, including those that relate to the structure of the Division itself. The Board will also assist in developing legislative and regulatory strategy to combat the outsourcing of aircraft maintenance to foreign repair stations, and in developing cost-saving recommendations to ensure greater representation and accountability by the Division and its representatives. The Board will entertain issues and suggestions from members through their shop stewards.

JetBlue Pilots to Form Union

Late last week, JetBlue filed for U.S. regulatory approval to form the low-cost airline’s first labor union, a move that pilots say will position them to cope with future management that may be less friendly to labor. The union that represents 7,200 workers at Southwest Airlines began informational picketing on Thursday afternoon at Houston 's Hobby Airport after contract negotiations stalled over wages.

Efforts to Slow Foreign Outsourcing

For years, U.S. airlines have been moving aircraft maintenance work to Asia, Mexico , Central America and other locations with low labor costs. Now, with the incoming Obama administration, and a more Democratic Congress preparing a new aviation agenda, efforts to slow the outsourcing trend may intensify, reports the Atlanta Journal-Constitution.

yea what about all the FedEx workers we had their that got screwed when they outsourced their jobs. They took pay cuts and joined the outsource company and now to stick the knife all the way in they will put them completely out of work.

FEDEX OUT OF SUBIC BY JUNE NEXT YEAR

Logistics giant FedEx Express is expected to be out of Subic by June next year, with the full operations of its new hub in China .

The subsidiary of FedEx Corp., in a statement, said its new Asia-Pacific hub at Guangzhou Baiyun International Airport in southern China was on trial operations and would be fully running by the first half of 2009.

Now in the testing phase, the new Asia-Pacific hub is expected to be fully operational in the first half of 2009, the company said.

FedEx said it would continue to run its current Asia-Pacific Hub in Subic Bay while it tested the Guangzhou hub operations.

Operations testing on the new hub have started, including the Hong Kong-Guangzhou cross border transportation processes, sort systems and flight operations.

FedEx operated Subic Bay in Zambales province as its main hub in the Asia-Pacific region, serving more than 14,000 stations, before it announced the transfer of its operations to China in 2005.

FedEx said it would maintain its presence in the Philippines , with its Manila and Cebu facilities remaining integral parts of the FedEx AsiaOne network.

The company originally aimed to start its hub operations in China by 2008, but it updated its schedule of operations for the Guangzhou hub had to test all systems and processes.

The company was also in talks with Guangzhou authorities to secure all necessary approvals.

It said that over the past several months, significant progress had been made in key areas, including construction, IT, employee training and the installation of the hub's unique package and sorting system, comprising of 16 high-speed sorting lines, seven round-out conveyer belts, as well as a total of 90 primary and secondary document-sorting splits.

This advanced system will enable FedEx to sort up to 24,000 packages an hour at the start of operations, the company said.

The Guangzhou hub features a ramp control tower--a first for an international air express cargo company facility in China .

Since we announced plans for a new FedEx Asia-Pacific Hub in Guangzhou in 2005, we have achieved many important milestones toward our vision of delivering growth while providing our customers with expanded access to the global marketplace, said David Cunningham Jr., president of Asia-Pacific, FedEx Express.

As the largest FedEx hub outside of the United States , it will help stimulate business both in southern China and globally, and will enable us to meet the growing demands for air express services in the region over the next three decades, Cunningham added.

Delta hands out raises but they're not all the same

Delta Air Lines Inc., the world's largest carrier, will give most workers raises of 3 percent, while increases for unionized employees at newly acquired Northwest Airlines Corp., will be half that amount.

Noncontract employees will get a 3 percent to 4 percent boost starting Jan. 1, Delta Chief Executive Officer Richard Anderson said Tuesday in a memo. Unionized workers, including Northwest flight attendants and mechanics, will get 1 percent to 1.5 percent as stipulated in their existing contracts, he wrote.

While Delta and Northwest pilots have already agreed on a new, higher-paying joint contract, the disparity in raises among other workers underscores tensions between groups that are unionized at Northwest but not at Delta.

"It's unfortunate that throughout these sensitive times management is trying to pit one group against another," said Corey Caldwell, a spokeswoman for the Association of Flight Attendants in Washington , which represents the Northwest chapter. Delta's flight attendants aren't unionized.

Delta's raises are part of an effort to bring employee pay back up to "industry standard" by 2010, Anderson said in the memo. The airline slashed wages before and during its own bankruptcy, which ended in 2007, to help lower costs. Delta most recently gave its workers 3 percent increases in July.

The carrier has already agreed to give all pilots a 5 percent boost in 2009, followed by 4 percent increases in each of the next three years in exchange for greater flexibility in scheduling while Delta and Northwest integrate operations.

No matter how bad things look for the economey I want you to remember one thing, Fedex is a money maker and we deserve our part which includes a better retirement and better benefits. I don't know about you but I just got my notice for how much my medical will jump. I was paying $260.00 a month but now thanks to Fedex I get to pay $330.00. I am sure glad I get to pay more for less, how about you. The Time is ours now and we will show that the middle class is what made this country great and we will make it great again.
