UNITED WE BARGAIN DIVIDED WE BEG
Being in the out station for just a short time I can now see why many of us don't get involved. When your out of touch with what goes on at the larger stations like Memphis and LAX and INDY you feel all is good. Being in an out station you don't have to deal with managers being down your throat or having meeting after meeting's pumping worthless information to you and the problems you do want addressed never gets answers.
Don't get me wrong I am working harder than I ever have and to be honest I love it. Going from a shop that had a meeting every week and never any good news you can get fedup enough to want to change it. Seems when your in an out station you stay so busy you don't have time to sit and think about what your fellow amt's are going through until something happens to you and then it's to late.
I have guys here who are for it and some who say they would still work for FedEx if offered a job from UPS with their benefits and pay. That I think is just stupid but everyone has there right to their beliefs and I respect him no matter what.
This should not be about who is for and who is against as long as it does not effect me! If I found out anything is that we have to many FUIGM's who if there life is good and the are getting overtime or never been sick to see how bad our medical has gotten you can't make them see the truth. The simple fact is until something happens bad to them and then say I can't believe I did not know how things have changed for the worse, we need help!
I love FedEx because it gave me a job for almost 22 years straight and before the big change in our retirement and medical came along I would not have seen a need for a union.
This is about all aircraft mechanics who believe that we as a job class should be separated from those who are not professionals like we are. One thing I can promise is that you will get older and your health will not stay the same or that some tragic sickness or accident that was not even your fault hit's you is when you will wake up.
I am not involved in this movement with the IAM due to health issues and time restraints, but still do believe that we will never get the respect we deserve until class and craft is decided.
If you feel your job is not as important as the pilots there is nothing I can say to change your mind. I do wish that I knew when I come to work everyday that someone is negotiating on behalf of us and when a contract is passed knowing that it goes all the way back to when the old contract expired.
I would wish that you make up some medical problem you might have and do your homework on how much it will cost you to have work done on you and see how bad it is.
Randy I think your doing a great job and I apologize for doing more than I normally would but like I said, I can't take the stupidity and ignorance anymore.
I leave you with this, why does the NFL have a union? why do teachers have a union? Why do almost all airlines pilots have union's along with the police and firefighters and so many other intelligent careers? Doctors and Nurses around the country also have unions (not in the south where they love knowing they never have to negotiate with the union We can not compare apples and oranges and if you compare us to passenger airlines you just don't understand what I am saying. UPS is the only other company we can compare to and if you knew how much more they are making then us in total benefits and pay, rules that are in stone and not rubber like ours. You don't have to hate FedEx to say maybe we can try this other way and if that does not work then you can always vote again to get rid of what does not work.
We are the second highest paid not considering management and if they can't take from the pilots because they have a contract you should see by now they take it from us.

We concluded a fantastic meeting with the IAM reps. and we are all pretty fired up. This is the best shot we've got to get to the NMB by far.
Anybody that may have had a bad experience with any Union, or heard of somebody that had a bad experience like WE did with the Teamsters, leave that behind.
Let me point out that the Pilots are extremely happy with their Union and we are paying for their benefits.
It's our turn. It's long past our turn.
We have the assurance of the 3 Top Reps. that we will file under our own Class and Craft, Job Families 1 and 16. The IAM will represent to the NMB that we, and nobody else should be in our Class and Craft.
We really need to get the cards in fast. If you go to www.goiamfedex.org, sign and email the card, then print one off without the signature, sign it, tape it up and drop it in the mail.
We are looking for Reps., especially in MEM, IND and LAX. We also need Reps. in the Out Stations. Those Out Stations that were 100% or close on the last drive contact me, I need your help. Regional Reps. are needed so we can keep track of who has been contacted.
The bottom line is we have never gotten to the NMB and we MUST GET THERE THIS TIME.
Please sign and return the cards quickly and talk to your friends. We need to make this happen.

I think we can still get this done, we have just got to get MEM, LAX and IND on board, and the rest of the Out Stations. A lot of you guys/gals know at least 2 people that haven't been asked....Ask them, get a card, lets get it done, then we'll discuss a new path to making this happen.
For the 2 AMT's that were the instrumental in getting this new path going, THANKS FOR ALL YOUR EFFORTS. Please contact me whenever you need anything.
Every other AMT/SAMT will be thanking you also. I think this will work out just fine.

Some very interresting information

I received this from a very reliable source that been with FedEx for decades. Please read it carefully and understand what is and has been happening to us
We need to stop the bleeding, and have a plan in place to help us, but we need cards. I'm asking everybody In MEM, LAV, IND, OAK and all the out stations to come on board. We need to stop the loss of benefits.
Remember, United we bargain, divided we beg.
I have the P.O. Box for another 3 months and then I'm going to cancel it.
It is inconceivable to me that the Job Family One AMT's don't want to be in their own Class and Craft. The Truckers beat us out for goodness sake. What does that say about us and what is it going to take. After they take it away, it's impossible to get it back.
This was the best time politically to get this done, but most ignored it. I guess most are too busy to protect themselves and their families.
All the AMT's I talked to for cards, you know who you are, you didn't sent not even one and the help that was asked for was only answered by one SAMT.
I'm finished with it. Tom hat 2 heart attaches and the money we spent we should have just flushed it down the toilet.
Just think of out retirement, 8 grand a year vs. 52, 000. a year. Eight grand what you got now, you must like it because nobody except for one offered help.
If, and when whoever takes this up again, I'll sign a card and good luck. As I said before this wasn't a union drive, it was for Class and Craft. If you think that little about yourself, I can't help you.

or just don't care about it because all of their family members are healthy and haven't
had to actually utilize our medical benefits like some of us have been forced to, especially
when you have a loved one with cancer and has more doctors than some of us have
underwear in our drawer!! I would suggest that most of you pray you never have to really
utilize our medical insurance, or start filling out the papers to file for bankruptcy??
Just in case you did not know our health plan sucks big time!
Best medical plan here in 2010 was a $250 individual deductible. It was only $36.92 a wk.
That's right $36.92 It paid 90% of expenses.

2011 deductible went to $300 ind and $900 for family. Out of network family $1800 deductible.
2012 it had same $300 ind and 900 family in network but out of network family went to $2400.
The out of pocket max in 2012 was $2000 ind and $6000 family.

2014 deductible $1200 ind and $3600 family. Plan pays just 80% its there best plan. Out of
pocket maximum is $3200 ind and $9600 family.

As you can see how any raise was never really a raise. Our insurance has been declining rapidly since 2012.

I AM VERY SORRY TO ALL THOSE OF YOU WHO HAVE SUPPORTED OUR EFFORTS FOR SO MANY YEARS AND BELIEVED IN WHAT WE WERE DOING. SO MANY OF YOU HAVE TAKEN SO MUCH TIME YOUR LIVES TO TRY AND MAKE US HAVE THE SAME KIND OF BENEFITS THE PILOTS HAVE.

I finally got my cable back after a lightning strike at my house and I think I've got all the electrical kinks worked out.
We need a few volunteers to help make sure the word gets out to everybody.
I would like 2 reps from:
IND Line and HGR
MEM Line and HGR
LAX Line and HGR
1 rep. for Job Family 18 from LAX, MEM and IND
and 1 rep. each for all the back shops at the IND, MEM and LAX.
We need all those that signed July 4th last year to resubmit a new card:

We are sorry if we did not get back to you there was a reason

Randy had somehow lost his password to the site and tried to contact me and I have to resend him the invite to run the site. Please try to understand we are trying to keep up but I have had way too much to get caught up on here at BNA. I just want to thank The guys Dick Matta and Paul Winters for holding down the fort and getting this place in what kind of order they can. We need some items to make sure we don't fail in doing our jobs so we can only request what we need and hope they come through. Very tough to launch aircraft 5 min apart when you only have 3 stairs for 4 aircraft. I am so lucky to have the nicest and friendliest gate partners who had my back when I went through what I can only describe as boot camp but getting back up to speed they had no choice. My last day in Avionics shop I leave you with this

Today is my last day in the Avionics shop and will be packing up my family and move to Nashville. I will be checking in but I have an awful lot to do and Randy is on top of everything. I hope I am making the right move (my dad use to always say you know what you got, you don't know what your going to get) but I am looking forward to working with my new fellow AMT's and getting back on the jet's. I hope everyone will keep talking to those who can not see the light of the cost cutting that is coming our way. They have a plan and we are in it but not in our best interest. When things get settled you will hear back from me but for now Please keep this going, I'm sorry I was not able to get you where we needed to be but even by now those who did not believe we at least need our own class and craft will have to face reality. Bills get bigger and with benefits getting smaller it will effect us all. Thanks for everything all of you

We need all AMT's including Inspectors, Job family 16 to print the new card and mail them to the PO Box. (PO Box 69. Cordova TN, 38088). If you have problems with the PO Box, email me. The Box will remain open and can be addressed NMB, NLRB or FedEx AMT Association. We need more activity from MEM Line/Hgrs/Avionics/Out Shops and all the small stations. If you know somebody at these locations, contact them and lets get this finished. We are all Professional Certificated Airmen just like the Pilots and need to be recognized as such. This drive is going strong and I'm here to help in any way I can. Let's quit dragging our feet with this and get it done. Again It's for the NMB to recognize us as Professionals in our own Class and Craft. We ARE Professionals and need to be recognized as such.
All who have signed cards back in July of 2013 need to re-submit new cards. There is a link on the blog to download the new cards. There is no UNION AFFILIATION on the cards, that because this is not a union drive. We need to stick together an get the recognition we deserve. Print off several copies and get your friends to send them in and please write legibly, it's hard to make out some of the cards.
I plan to keep the PO BOX in the near future and want to see what we can do by Nov 30.
Again, if you filled out a card last year, print out 5 or 10 of the new ones and fill them out and get some who haven't filled them out to sign on. Again, this IS NOT A UNION DRIVE. I'd like to have your email addresses also. I'm proud to be working with Tom and hope I can help you in any way I can.

Cards this time are coming in every week

Randy Sherwood has confirmed that the cards have been coming in a good rate this time. I think people are finally starting to figure out that every single individual has to sign one and not depend on everyone else to do the job for them! Keep spreading the word if they have not signed and sent they need to now.
I am starting my new Job up in Nashville on October 20th and I put out here that I was done come October 1st which is tomorrow. Randy will take over the website after I leave and count the cards. It won't make a lick of difference I am doing this or not, it is up to everyone and if we get the cards we get to the mediation board to help us get our own class and craft. I am at the stage that we don't need a third party at this stage (besides where are they now) My feeling is that we can come up with a board of our own by elections but that will be up to everyone else. If it all falls in line a list of options will be put up on this site for what kind of representation you want i.e IBT, AMFA, or our own FedEx Board.
It has been a pleasure meeting all of you through the years who felt that this was needed a long time ago and I am sorry I failed on that part. I don't know how many of you know this but If Ted Kennedy did not pass months before our bill went to the Senate we would have had the law overturned. He tried to stop it's passage back in 1996-97 and did not have the support. He would of gladly have supported our cause and he would have been the 60th democrat we needed to stop the filibuster that Tennessee Senators Corker and Alexander said they would pull. Without 60 they could not stop the filibuster from happening and the bill would have died. He had the pull to even get a few republicans to vote our way. As luck would have it (FedEx's not ours) he died of a brain cancer just before this happened. I did not give up after that big hurt but now it is time I worry about my family and my future. I will always support this effort no matter what but this old goat needs a rest.
Actually not a rest too much of that on my present job, looking forward to running around the jets like the rest of you guys hoping there is no block out's.

FAIR IS FAIR

I want to thank FedEx for overlooking politics and showing me and Joe Galinis the respect of what we do here with the Purple wing award. I been busting their balls for so long on what we lost I have to say I was shocked to what they gave me, the purple wing award. I am very thankful to all my managers and Sr Managers and Directors who must have had to really talk some good smack and had big balls to bring up my name. I have to admit that for the committee who had to know who I was and what I was doing to overlook politics of this I am truly impressed (ask anyone it takes a lot to impress me) I just figured if I can knock them for what they take I can give them a pat on the back for what they overcome and forgive.
I hope they all understand I never did any of this to hurt this company, I only ever thought of the good it would do it allowing the Amt's to have it's own class and craft. This would not bring in a third party but show Amt's that they respect us as a professional group and allow us to pick our own representatives to air our grievances. This would in turn in my opinion would help to get morale back and reliability numbers back up where they historically always were..
congratulations to all the other winners of this award and awards past. I am humbled by it and know it is only because one guy decided to enter me. We all share the load of making this company great to keep our family's financially safe and sound. Thanks to everyone who showed even me that the biggest of company's can have a heart. WE HAVE TO DO IT NATIONALLY AND WHEN THE POST OFFICE SCREWS US ALSO SENDING BACK SO MANY CARDS THAT WHERE ADDRESSED TO THE FEDEX AMT ASSOCIATION. Over the life of this quest, we have allowed AMFA, Teamsters and even attempted to go it alone.......and here we sit 8-10 years later, no better off, EXCEPT with less benefits and a vanishing retirement (expect a 401k only in the not too distant future)!!
You need to understand that NO organization is perfect and I know there are those that have a bitter taste left over from a past experience with I.A.M. but it was the same with all the other ones when they were at the helm of the ship!
There is no PERFECT solution to our problem..........but it beats the hell out of what we currently have, a WORTHLESS HANDBOOK that will always lean in favor of what mgmt wants to decide.
Get TERMINATED, and see who is sitting beside you to fight on your behalf...........not a soul will be there to help you keep your career!! That's how the company wants it, because they can replace you with a new person that will NEVER see $50+/hour as a good percentage of us do now......?
So it totally lies in your hands of how we forget about the past and quit making excuses, because none of that matters at this point, as we are running out of options to join the pilots to obtain protection of a written contract.
Give I.A.M. a chance to prove they have learned from past mistakes and get involved to seek answers to our problems that are blatantly obvious in a lot of areas in AirOps!
